Were radiator shutters standard equipment, or an option on Farmall "H" tractors. My 1947 H does'nt have them, and does'nt appear that it ever had them (except for the braket cast into the engine timing cover). A buddy of mine has a 1940 H with shutters, the control knob mounts to the rear fuel tank support. My 1947 doesn'nt have that same hole in the tank support. The only place I can see where the control knob would mount is the plate that houses the ignition switch, but that would require the control rod to be about 6"-8" longer. Is it possible someone took the system off (hard to believe considering the tractor has spent its whole life in western NY), or was this tractor just not equiped that way?

They came with the distillate engines which provided faster warmups. I'm not sure if they were optional on the "H" if you didn't have the distillate, but they were an option on "Super C's", which I have, with shutters.

Thanks Dave, my machine is a gasoline model (X1 in the serial #), and my buddies 1940 is a distillate model. That clears things up alot!

Yours being a gas tractor, the shutters would have not been installed as a standard feature. If it had the distillate head, then the shutters were standard.
