While trying to get to the points of my Super A's magneto, I made the mistake of opening the small gearbox in which the 1 to 2 reduction gears run to drive the distibutor. Is there a way of timing these gears again while the magneto is off the tractor? (The service manual does not mention this aspect.) Hope you experts can help me out again. Thanks! Wish all of you a very happy new year!

Thank you all for your responses! Both gears are marked for proper meshing indeed! I should have cleaned the parts better to examine them closely before asking. I think I sort of panicked...
Thanks very much anyway, because I now even now what these marks really mean. The large gear has L and R on it and the small gear has a bevelled tooth. Cheers, Hendrik.

On the rotor end of the large gear are 2 letters, R and L. Each of these will line up with the space between 2 teeth of that gear. Your mag. will be a right hand, follow the R and mark the 2 teeth in alignment. The small gear will have 1 tooth beveled off, align that tooth between the 2 which you marked on the large gear. Good luck

if this is an h-4 then "at the top of the rotor gear, where the rotor fits, a c and a are marked. when you assemble the drive gear to the distributor gear, be sure to line up the marks on the gears. most but not all, h-4 magnetos are clockwise." this was taken from how to restore tractor magnetos (neil yerigan) page 80 c is clockwise and a is anticlockwise
