I've been looking at a 1958 560 diesel, wide front end, good sheet metal and tires but the engine is stuck. The seller is asking $500. Is this a reasonable price for this model in this condition?

Gary: Looking at what you have found go for it! But you might think about this if it has a up date recall rear end go to Bryant Combine Salavge and get a good running 301 off a 715 for about $1000.00 and throw 90+ hp out in front It will work! If You don/t want the tractor let me know I/ll go get it! Thanks Dann

Gary,
I would probabaly have bought that one if I could have found it when I was looking for a school project. I paid $1350 for one with a bad TA, about 10 holes in the hood, Smoked like crazy and had a miss. The guy I bought it from had put new injectors and glow plugs in and put different tires and rims on the back. He thought it was just a plugged injector line. I brought it into school and when the shop teacher heard it run he said "open the motor up, scored piston" It dynoed 40 hp. I spent about 3500 on it(OH, new head,TA OH, block resurfacing) and feel I didn't get screwed on the tractor, seen a stuck one for 1500 in a paper, it was sold when we called.
My Dad spent over 10,000 to have his 560 fixed up the year before. We feel now "we know what we have" versus buying something else and ending up with the same problems.
Sorry for being so long Wheels

The wide front and sheet metal are worth more than $500.00 just for parts, would be hard to get hurt on this price.Wheres it located I'll take it.

As a reference for you, I sold a 660 diesel with stuck engine and really bad tires - but complete and good tin for $750 this fall. $500 sounds like a fair price to me if it is all there and the tin is decent.

A PIECE OF ADVICE: Look on the serial number tag for a delta sign or triangle to be punched in it. The early 560's were the ones with the rearend troubles, the triangle on the serial tag means it had the update installed, if it doesn't have the updates be wary of the condition of the rearend.

It sounds like a fair price, but you are buying a pig in a poke though. There are a lot of things that you cannot check with a dead engine. Hydraulics, T/A and transmission just to name a few. If you don't plan on fixing the engine yourself, you could be looking at a lot of money as well.
