Hello. I have recently rebuilt the engine in my 1955 400 Farmall. What is the best way to break in the motor if I don't have easy access to a dyno? TIA for any replies.

Thank you for the answers guys! Manure detail is one of the jobs I have in mind for the old girl. When driving down the road I will just vary the RPM every couple minutes. Thanks again!

Steve is right on with the manure hauling. A little idle--a little load. Lets all the bearings & rings, seals---everything get broken in easily. That's the way we broke in engine overhauls, & have had good success.

heres how i break in a rebuilt. dont run the tractor at full load for at least 10 hours. best thing to do is run her around in third or 4th gear, vary the rpm from idle to about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle for a day. try and avoid long periods of the same rpm until the rings break in. keep an eye on the oil pressure . get a couple days of running on it before you run er hard with a full throttle load.

We would put our new tractors on the manure spreader for breakin purposes. Worked good for us.

Overhauled the engine in the super M and broke it in pulling 3-14"s plowing alfalfa ground.

I would think the main thing is to run them at the proper operating temp. and make sure they dont overheat.
