Lucky you! Those are relatively minor problems that can be fixed on the farm. When you said "fix the rear end", I thought you were talking about removing the final drives and splitting it to tear down the whole rear end. On the PTO- first of all, do your hydraulics work? The main hyd pump is driven by the same shaft that drives the PTO unit. This shaft is driven by another shaft that splines into the clutch pressure plate. Those splines tear out from time to time. If your hydraulics work, then that is not the problem, and the PTO unit needs attention. First inspect the linkage for any obvious problems. You will need a special fitting to connect a 300 psi hyd. guage to the unit. The fitting is avalible through the parts dept. of your Case-IH dealer, don"t know the part number off the top of my head. Get yourself an I&T manual and pressure test the unit as described to pinpoint the trouble. More than likely your clutch pack is fried. The PTO unit is fairly easy to remove with the right lifting equipment, and it is possible for the ambitious do-it-yourselfer to rebuild, but a special tool is required (you can make the tool yourself). Once you reinstall the unit, you will once again need your special fitting and guage to adjust the oil pressure to the clutch pack. As far as your jumping out of gear problem, if you"re talking about jumping out of high, low, or reverse, you simply need to rebuild the range transmission cover. You"ve probably lost a detent roller and theres probably a few other worn out parts. Check the external linkage all of the way from the end of the lever to the range trans cover, replace ANYTHING that is questionable or has slop. The I&T manual should describe rebuilding the range trans cover, and I can help with any questions. If it jumps out of 1, 2, 3, or 4, thats another story.
