Today I saw the most pathetic Cub

There is a farm auction place on my route to and from work. Today I saw an actual red tractor, rather than rust colored, so I had to stop in for close inspection. It was some sort of Propane, or other some sort, of M. Had a huge tank where the gas tank should be. Anyway, it was red, but with a spray can. So I moved on and looked around. I found a Cub. And it was sad looking. I can't say I'm a big fan of Cubs, but this was like looking at a dog that had been hit by a truck and was laying in the rain. I felt sorry for it.

I would park the tractor under the pole barn, but,I'm afraid of the snakes. I had the tractor under the pole barn. The hay was dry and ready to rake.I got the tractor out of the pole barn and on the third time around the field I looked down at my feet and right between my feet was a black snake. I am not ashamed for a minit to admit that I did screm like a little girl. I kicked the tractor out of gear. I jumped off and stayed off untill Mr snake got off. After that I look under the hood,on top of the motor and trans before I get on the tractor. Also I untie my boots and tuck my pant legs inside my boots and lase them up around my pant legs. This may be alittle much, but,I would die if a snake went up my pant leg. I know your laughing at me.Go ahead and have a good one.

This one is a lay over from the auction held on Feb 14th. I guess no one wanted it. Had I been there, I bet I would have bid $20 or something. But my wife would kill me if I got another tractor when I can't even afford to fix the one I've got! lol

Besides, I like the more round grill. The older style, I guess. This one looks like a Model T.

Next auction is in April. If someone wants this, and wants to drive out to California to get it, I'll bid on it for you.

Mike, if you had purchased that cub then you would have two tractors. That's how you get tractor fever. Once you buy that second tractor there's no stopping.

Mike, I'm sure that little CUB did get bids, but the bidding didn't go high enough to satisfy the current owner, so he didn't let it go. That's why it is still sitting there, just waiting for the next auction.

That makes sense. I wasn't there, so I assumed people didn't know what it was or cared. It's mainly large industrial farms around this area, so I guessed that people attending are looking for items to meet that end.

For the most part that doesn't look all that bad. I've seen a lot worse and the people that owned them thought they where worth gold prices. Looked at one that looked about like that one and was missing the carb and a few other parts and they wanted $1000 for it firm. Its still there also

Agreed that didn't look bad at all.

Saw one sell near Holton Kansas a couple years ago that was much worse. The thing had been sitting out side in the same spot for 4 years - that was where one of the rear tires blowed out while he was mowing. The other three tires were flat and the entire tractor was dented and missing parts with a nice patina of rust to varify its age. On the plus side the engine wasn't froze but it wouldn't start either - after the 10% buyers commission the bidder paid over $1700 for it.

Well..... I think about the fact that once upon a time that was a brand new piece of machinery and the owner just abused it to death by leaving it sit out in the weather for the last 30+ years. I never will figure that one out. Folks buy new machines and park them in the barn lot and they go to h*ll.

whats funnier yet mark is people spend 80,000 on a new loader and wont spend the 10grand to have some sort of covered shelter for it. It's like what the hell is wrong with people?

JayWalt,

What they pay for a machine doesn't seem to make any difference! I have always shedded my tractors, but confess that the tillage equipment sits in the weather....I've yet to have a plow rust away or fail to start..LOL!

I don't allow mud to stay caked on my tractors either...just makes for more grief down the road. Keep a roof over them, the worst washed off, and be free with a grease gun and oil and they will look and run good a long time.
