What the heck does everyone have their britches in a bunch over?

The ad is loud, annoying, poorly written, difficult to read, and full of incorrect information. The tractor is NOT a "special version for western states." The tractor does NOT have any rare or special options. Sorry if this hurts your feelings Jim, but if it does maybe you should look into growing thicker skin.

Baxter is well within reason to question the validity of the ad, as we are ALL well within reason to question the validity of ANY ad.

Just because someone has 100% positive feedback does not mean the account hasn't been hacked and a fake item put up.

Some people just don't get it. I have gotten many good deals on many hard to find items on Ebay, including tractors. It's all about being in the right place at the right time, and knowing how to use the SEARCH feature. You don't have to go through every single ad. Just type in what you want in the SEARCH window. Don't knock something just because you're an old dog that refuses to learn new tricks.

When i asked this question i was asking if this was a real "rare" tractor that was spefically made for the westren states. That was my Questin, I know that it is not a fake farmall its an M.

Instead of complaining about your post Baxter, he should be thanking you. Look at all the free advertizing he recieved for his tractor because of your post.

Dave: You make a good point. We had a gas station operator in my home town, we called him Boss Hogg. I learned about Boss flirting with both political parties, and relayed the info to a local newspaper friend.

The newspaper guy wrote it up as though political fences out in the country were barbed wire, thus jumping the same, old Boss might encounter some serious under damage.

For about three weeks, suspecting I had been the culpert, Boss hardly spoke to me, and if he did it was usually a lobored grunt. One day I went into his gas station, and another customer was giving him a hard time over the newspaper article. I stepped up to make a purchase, he grunted as I expected. Finally I said, "what in H@!! has you in such a bad mood? Sure I'm the culpert, but look at all the business this has generated for you, folks have stopped by, made a purchase, just to give you a hard time. Take that chap that just left, I bet he hasn't darkened your door in 2 years." A grin came over his face, then, "hehehehe. your right, my sales are actually up the past 3 weeks".

Nothing like free publicity, money will not buy the equal.

It's ok Baxter. Asking if there really was a "Western" version is a totally legitimate question. Even the owner didn't know for sure, as evidenced in his statement in the ad that it was only "what he was told".

In hindsight, it was just an unfortunate choice of words that got some people's feathers ruffled when ya said "not at all real" and "sounds like a fake". That made it sound like you thought someone was deliberately trying to scam people.

Obviously he's not, so no harm, no foul.

Maybe its not "rare" but we have seen a lot of M's and never seen one like this. It not only changes the ground speed but the PTO speed. As far as a Western tractor, that is what the man told us. Don't knock what someone else has, if you don't like ebay thats fine, there are a lot of crooks on there you have to watch out for but a lot of honest, good people as well. If you check peoples feedback that tells you a lot. It is ugly, and that is the first thing I said when I seen it, but it runs great, just needs the right paint job. Personally I wouldn't have minded if it didn't sell so I could rake hay with it this year.

Baxter, just curious what you don't think is "real" about it? I looked at the auction and it just looks like an M with an ugly paint job....which the seller admited to in his ad. The "rare" part might be stretching it a bit, depending on how you classify rare, though.

You could consider it a nine speed. It also changes the speed of the PTO.

Jim, I'll jump in this for a couple of reasons. First, your tractor probably has a M&W 9 speed which adds an extra set of speed ranges to 1st through 4th. It also will increase the PTO speed to the same ratio since it is driven off the lower transmission countershaft. I'm not the 9 speed expert here but I think M&W was the manufacturer who had a cable control. I have a nine speed M which has a Heisler 9 speed which utilized a lever and rigid shaft to engage it in the transmission. It also has a belly pump disconnect to keep it from over running the belly pump. You would have the same problem with the belly pump on your tractor unless there is some sort of disconnect as the belly pump is run off the front end of the countershaft. Second, I have never purchased anything from you but you had a Super C tractor a couple of years ago I wish I would have purchased. I discussed it on the phone with you in real detail and thought you were very forth coming with everything I had to discuss on the tractor. I later found out it was even better then you made it out to be in your listing and in our phone discussion. I always look at your for sale items both here on the forum and Ebay because I think you are among the better folks out there with trators and parts. It's just too bad an "ugly M tractor" got carried this far, Hal.

Hi Hal! I remember talking to you about the Super C. Glad to hear from you again, I hope we can do business in the future. I appreciate you standing up for me on this, it got really carried away. Always people trying to put someone down, like a bunch of women gossiping at the local hair salon! Stay in touch, if there is anything you are looking for let me know and I will see if I can help you out. Thanks!!

I have bought items from Jim on ebay and they have all been just as he said they were. as for the tractor a lot of the western tractors had the add-on two speed it was not made by IH, and it does have a bad paint job My 2 cents

Jim: My critism is not of you but rather the system. It seems quite clear to me, if it's a tractor you put it under tractors, same with parts, books, toys, etc. If I as a buyer am looking for something in particular, I have to look at the whole damn 1395 items. No thank you, I have better things to do with my time, plus any of the used parts I looked at, I can buy new at CaseIH for same money.

DO YOU NOT REALIZE THAT ORIGINAL IH PARTS DO NOT HELP THE VALUE OF A TRATOR IF SOMEONE IS RESTORING A TRACTOR THEY WANT ORIGINAL PARTS AND YES THEY ARE HIGHER SOMETIMES ON EBAY BUT THEY ARE ORIGINAL AND HELP THE VALUE GREATLY, I AM A FIRM BELIEVER OF THAT AND AS FAR AS E-BAY IT IS ALL IN HOW YOU USE IT THEY DON'T CHARGE FORLOOKING THAT WAS A STUPID REMARK. I HAVE BEEN A BUYER AND SELLER ON E-BAY FOR 5 YEARS AND I THINK IT IS A GREAT PLACE TO BE ABLE TO BUY AND SELL BUT YOU HAVE THESE IDIOTS OUT THERE THAT ABUSE IT AND THEN IT HURTS THE REST OF US THAT RESPECT IT.

Jim: They damn well may not charge me for looking, however I should correct you on just who the stupid folks are. They are the ones that advertise their parts, or their manuals, or their toys in the wrong catagory. Why just this morning I pulled up Farmall tractors, well over half the intem in that catagory are not tractors.

Now, I will admit this problem is not exclusive to ebay. You get the same thing on most computer generated advertising. I guess we just cant do any thing about stupid folks advertising. I will however tell you one thing, I DAMN WELL DON'T HAVE TO WASTE MY TIME READING SUCH CRAPY ADVERTISING, and ebay ranks about the worst.

Jim, do you have any pics of the two speed set up? Does anybody know who made this? It sounds pretty sweet? It kind of sounds worth buying if it has a faster first gear. I have always thought that speed is distance when you are hooked to the sled.

HI SCOTT, I ONLY HAVE THE 1 PIC THAT I TOOK OF THE CABLE OPERATED 2 SPEED. WITH THE BLACK FRAME IT IS HARD TO SEE. AND WITH LESS THAN 12 HOURS I CAN'T DO ANY ADDING OR CHANGING I MY DESCRIPTION.THE WESTERN PART I PUT IN WAS JUST WHAT A COUPLE OF GUYS TOLD ME, SO I REALLY CAN'T SAY ON THAT END, BUT THE 2-SPEED WORKS GREAT AND IT IS A VERY SOLID OLD UGLY TRACTOR, EVEN THE SEAT BUSHINGS ARE TIGHT, THE MAN HAD MORE BLACK THEN HE DID RED AND THAT IS WHY IT IS PAINTED LIKE THAT AND HE WANTED TO BE DIFFRENT, IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS LET ME KNOW.

His feedback is at 100%.I have delt with Jim and he has been up front every time.By western I believe he means that the tractor came from out west, not a western model.
If he says it is a good running machine, you can take it to the bank.

Hugh, I agree 100%. I recently canceled my ebay account. There are many more options for buying and selling that are much less complicated, less costly, and much more secure. I don't need ebay digging into my pocket everytime I just look at them.

The terms "western" or "wheatland" or "standard' tractor are sometimes used regionally for a tractor with a nonadjustable wide front. The Farmall like that closest to an M would be a W-6.
