Gene, Hugh and Jerry, thanks for the information about the color for the rim's. I went with the rustoleum hammered. This was my first project.
You can go to the Galleries and click on tractor photo's and see the results. It's listed as 1953 Farmall Super A. (2 photo's) Thanks again for all the help everyone.
Farmer J.

From the photos the tractor looks great. I like the rims and have thought about using that paint. Will try it next time but im going to top it off with the clear cote to see what it looks like. Verry nice job shows what some hard work can produce as you have one to be proud of.

Farmer J: Very very nice, you've put a lot of work into that project, and yes as George said I am proud of you.

That part he had correct however the right up my alley part may not be so correct. I'm a farmer and user of tractors, tend to keep my tractors in top mechanical condition. On the cosmetic side I'm just as apt to spray on spray paint on rust spots only.

Hugh I just meant you were a big fan of the offset tractors.

George: No question on that part, and I must admit I do like to see them restored and painted. It's just that I don't have the patience for doing that restoration.

Hugh I am that way myself If it runs and everything works I use it. They are pretty all shined up though. I'm going to get me one of them super a,100,130 or 140 one of these day's. I have only one now it's gramps's cub it is cute but I like a little more iron to play with.

George: I know how one can feel about a Cub. My dad bought one new with cultivators and 5' side mower in 1950. It was to replace the horses doing row crop cultivation and mowing hay. That part was alright, however the very next year he traded the W4 for and H with a 31 loader and proceeded to pull the manure spreader with the Cub. This was a manure spreader he had pulled with W4 since 45. It didn't work as was the case with many other jobs on a growing dairy farm. The Cub soon became rather usless in our application. He wished he had bought a Super A, or at least not traded the W4.

Farmer J,

I noticed the rod that connects the rockshaft arm to the rocker arms in the back looks pretty thick on yours. Did you get that off a 140 or have one made?

I been looking at a Cub Low Boy and dreaming.

There was a 1962 for sale in the photo ads last week that was yellow that sure had my name on it.

Oh well that will have to wait. I got an old transplanter to fix up this summer.

The rod was already on the tractor when I bought it Super A-Tx. I got it form a man that had it for 6-7 years. He bought it from the original owner.I purchased the tractor a few monts ago. Wish I had taken a picture before I restored it.
The Low Boy sounds like a great choice. Go for it.....
Hope to get started on my cub shortly. Got to get the cultivators finished up first.
Is the original color for the Super A's culivators IH Blue? I have the IH blue and IH Black paint. I heard Black first, then Blue????
Thanks and have a great day,

Farmer J

I painted mine like I did in the picture below because I could see clearly what had been blue and black.

I have seen others paint the gang arms red and the tool bar blue. I think the clamps would have been black and the cultivator/sweeps were black but I have seen the clamps painted blue too. Guy here by the name of Reddog has some good pics of his cultivators if he chimes in.

You may want to do some research too because depending on the date of the tractor paint colors changed some. By 1953 I guess they would have gone back to the original color. Check at the Wisconsin Historical Site and check the paint decisions if you want to be real accurate Ilink below). Heck, on one I saw where they were painting the Texas Sweeps orange and they voted to go ahead and let them do it.
