As my 4th gear of my '46 H pops out i have examined the gear box and there is a lot of play between the 4th/5th sliding gear and the main shaft. I wonder whether i need to replace both or only the siding gear and how can i get the gear and shaft out.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

To replace the 4&5thslider, you need to have the deck and front bearing cage removed.. it will take more time to remove the front bearing cage than to remove the deck.. once both these parts are removed, all you need to do to remove the main shaft, is to take out all three bolts in the mainshaft bearing retainer, and pull the whole unit from the ring gear.. with the main shaft and gears out, remove all gears and inspect the main shaft for chatter marks. If chatter marks are evident in the 4&5th slider area, and are excessive, you will need to replace the mainshaft, 4&5th slider, and atleast the mainshaft pilot and front bearing cage bearings. If you need any of the transmission gears or a new mainshaft, just email me
