Allan in NB-you broke the LAW!

I'll tell you something, I've been around farm equipment since I was old enough to walk, probably 63-64 years ago. I've yet to see what I call a perfect tractor, it just hasn't been built by anyone. Now if I look at the 8 to 10 major companies that were around in 1960, each and everyone of them had at least one feature I liked.

IH just had too many booboos to make them an exclusive on any farm.

The old two-cylinder John Deere for overall reliabiltiy and ease of service, as well as sheer, unadulterated pulling ability. I've seen our old MT run under conditions which would stop any other tractor. Almost scary what these tractors will do. Also has the bedders where you can see them, which is nice.

At one time I would have said Ford for ease of operation, back when they had a monopoly on the three-point hitch. An 8N still has a certain charm, but try and check the points on one! And my 2600 starts VERY easily for a Diesel.

But teevee directors just LOVE the Oliver. Look how many you see in commercials!

Personally, I think both the Raymond Lowey Farmall and the Norman Bel Geddes John Deere are much more important than almost any other tractors from an industrial-design-history standpoint.

But that green and white Art Deco sheetmetal on the Oliver impresses assitant directors more than any other feature on any other tractor, almost every time.

You know, Allan can say one thing, there is definitely money in farming. Just ask him.

I roam around over there from time to time. I kinda like those old John Deeres.

Just too darned bad they are far too expensive for me to own. :>)
