I got a tractor that has been in barn for 12 years and not run. Tractor ran fine when parked. The motor seems to be seized up. Somebody told me to put coke down the cylinders to unseize, will this work or should I try wd-40 or something similar. Im not sure if I can get it unseized and if I do will it run ok. Any idea's would be great, Thanks

Best way to go would be with the brass stock according to how bad it is stuck. but be sure not to pull it with another tractor exc or somthing because rods have been known to bend and brake and same way with the crank. iv seen it done.

The latest issue of Antique Power Magazine has plans for a home made jack screw system to break loose a stuck engine. Head must be removed to use it. You could make one pretty easy out of some steel scraps, etc. This thing would be for one that is REALLY stuck. Looks like it would work good.

This may sound odd to you, but we had a really really stuck rusty engine that we could not get freed up. I heard a few times filling the cylinders with brake fluid works well. I filled the cylinders of that rusty engine one night, and in the morning, the fluid soaked under the pistons and the engine turned over great! Try soaking your cylinders with brake fluid, see if it works for you. I do it all the time now.

This may of already been mentioned but I did not see it....are you sure starter is not locked on ring gear this is a very common problem with all letter series tractors.

Auto tranny fluid let it soak about a week.....keep fluid in spark plug holes.....block the wheels of tractor.....jack up one rear wheek....put trans in 5th gear....rock wheel back and forth..... keep this going every few days..... it will work.....

Had 560D that did"nt run for ten years. took the haed of and kept dumping wd40 in the sleeves and done this for three says and took an inch peace of brass stock and disconnected the rods from the crank and turned the crank oposite of the way of the piston that yur working on and hit the peice of stock with a hammer and got the piston to move downward enough to houn the sleeve a little then beat the piston back upward through the top of the engine and that worked slicker thana gut.

One other thing you might try after letting it sit with the PB Blaster in the cylinders for awhile is, remove the starter and get a big pry bar and, using the ring gear teeth on the flywheel to pry on(use common sense here, don't break the teeth off), try to get the engine to turn backwards(counterclockwise looking at it from the front). An old-time IH mechanic who's been into old engines all his life told me this, and using this method I had a 650D I bought unstuck in one afternoon. Your results may vary!!!

Oh, should add here- once I got it to turn backwards a little bit, just enough to know it wasn't stuck, we hooked a chain on 'er and pull started it. Runs fine now other than it had a burnt exhaust valve that needed taken care of.

Put rum in the coke and drink the coke. Then, squirt PBlaster in each cylinder through the spark plug hole. Re-insert plugs. Mix another coke and rum. Drink it. Come back in two days and add more PBlaster. Re-insert plugs. Mix another rum and coke. (By now, you get the idea.) After 10 days of this rather enjoyable routine, put the M in 4th gear and try to rock it loose with the spark plugs out. If successful, have a rum and coke. If not successful, have a rum and coke - and start over. Is owning a Farmall M great or what!?!! mike

I like the ATF too. If it doesn't free up you may need to pull the head and remove the pan. Then use a piece of 2X2 oak and a hammer and drive out the rod and pistons. Hal

Very best thing I have found to pop one free is tranny fluid. Out of more then 10 engines I have only had one that didn't pop free and in it all but one cylinder did pop free the one that didn't the sleeve came out with the piston and it took a 12 ton press to get the piston out of it. FILL the cylinders with tranny fluid and also pout as much as you can into the exhaust. By pouring it in the exhaust after you put the plugs back in you get to the open exhaust valves so they will also work free.

Before I went to pouring stuff in it I would check valves. They will stick sometimes and keep engine from turning.

I simply cannot see why anyone would put Coke, diet or regualr in an engine to free it up, but I have never tried, so I cant tell you it will or wont work.I have broken several engine free with PBlaster. Take out the plugs, spray it in until they are full, put the plugs cack in and let it sit, filling the chambers every couple of days. I have used Kroil, but cant stand the smell of it.

coke has phosphoric acid added to it. thats why the old timers used it to loose up rusty lug nuts. i'm pretty sure coke is the only soda pop that adds phosphoric acid.

There are many diffrent ways to do this. If you use coke make shure it is diet. One way i would try first is to put a mix of diesel fuel some oil and diet coke and what ever elce works to get thnigs free such as wd-40 and rust inhibtors. And fill each cylender with the mix. Then put it in gear and each day shake the tires foward and then backwards this will help to get the pistions unstuck.
