i was cleening my distributor and the end that goes into the engine front cover came out and fell on the floor. i just put it back in, and was wondering if i would have to put it back in a certin way or it might not be timed right?

Hummm.... It depends. Yeah, you can stick that stem in any which way. But when you put the wole thing back it has to be timed with the tractor. Did you mark which way the rotor was pointing? Otherwise you are going to have to start from square one. Run the enigine over til you find TDC on compression stroke for the #1 cylinder and then time from there.

Not necessarily 180, it could be anywhere.

You'll have to bring the engine to TDC on compression, then line up distributor drive to get rotor on number one plug wire. That should get it going, then you'll have to reset timing advance.

You could possably be 180 degrees off on your timing.
