Well,

Not out, just won't come out of T/A. Darned lever is rusted/froze up. Soakin' it in panther juice now.

Guess I should use that tractor more than 25 acres a year. :>(

Allan: Mine never stuck but did get stiff once, after that I just sprayed a bit of graphite in that pivot about twice per year.

My concern here is you are no longer up to working these larger tractor hard enough to keep them limbered up. You'll have to buy up some more land, then hire a couple of young cowboys the work them much harder. Can't you just imagine the kind of problems I could create for you if you listened.

Yeah,

It's like the old joke about the Polocks who were loosing money on every load of corn, so they decided to get a bigger truck. :>)

You nailed it though, I have no use for 5 tractors. The H can pretty much take care of itself, but those big guys need to be worked and flexed to keep 'em young and limbered up.

Don't think that 686 ran for over 10 hours total last year. That's just plain dumb, but I don't have the heart to let one go either. :>(

I was heartened tho when after setting for 7 months, that tractor popped on the 2nd revolution. Didn't even blink about coming back to life.

Dunno, might have to get soft and build a machine shed to keep the dirty old rascals in. What's life coming to anyway? :>)

Better chain a boat anchor to the drawbar if you need to go down any hills!!!

Yep common problem with two different metals that don't play nice when oxidation is present. You think your T/A being stuck is bad. The same thing happened to the high/low range lever on our 656 Hydro. It stuck in high range for a while. I was raking with the engine idling and the speed ratio lever as little forward I could get it to go. I was still doing 7 mph!! Soaked it up with penetrating oil and after a week it loosened up enough to move.

My 666 is atuck in DD, but I know what my problem is. Last February my 17 year old son turned it over and battery acid ran down on the lever and it seized it up tight. I have not fixed it yet as I figured no one could abuse it if they couldn't pull the lever back. I am going to fix it in the next day or two. BTW my son wasn't hurt and the tractor came out fairly well had to put on new muffler, seat, steering wheel, bleed fuel system and new oil she still purrs like a kitten.

happy the T/A isnt at fault, that would suck.

It's hard to imagine something on these old beasts being poorly designed as in lack of a grease fitting, but I guess it happens. Wait til these new ones get 50 years old, haha...

I'm glad I dont have a T/A. While 1st is a tad bit fast at times, its not too often it is, so I'll live with it =)

An intersting solution (remembered from here) is to cross drill the shaft with a 7/64 drill bit such that the drill enters where a zerk can be installed, and exits where the (poorly designed) steel sleeve touches the shaft. This allows the lube to get into the surfaces. Use your best judgement on location and angle. Drilling right down the middle, then with the lever halfway between Direct and TA drill up through the bottom of the bushing through the shaft to the axiel hole, thus making a closed hole with the lever in either normal position. What did you do? Just soak it and work it back and forth? Never heard of this happening before.
