OK I have a 1945 Farmall A. It has a steel shifter knob and it is S/N 143037. I was trying to figure out where the radiator was leaking and it was leaking at all places the water pump yes the water pump This looks to be a later engine. It also has the dip stick for the oil and also the pet cocks on the oil pan. What are the numbers I need to look for and where will they be to see what block I have? I think its a C-123 engine.
can anyone help me figure out what I have.

Chad: since you have a 1945 head and and the the date code from yesterday must have been the front cover being 1945 as well, as this S/N FAA 4307 makes the block 1939.

I say this as SA block would be FAAM and SC would be FCM. The only other 4307 would be in either a 100 or 200, but wouldn't be preceeded by FAA.

If you pull the head, and maybe you should, the head gasket is different when the water pump is installed and it may not be correct if the pump was added. The one for the thermosiphon cooling had water passages that matched the engine and the one for the water pump has round holes. They help cool the rear cylinders by restricting the flow around the front of the block because it acts like a bypass if the holes are too big.

Chad: As gene said give us the numbers, and get all of them. You could have a half dozen possibilities.

T here will be a serial # below #1plug. The part# is in the filter area. Casting code below the mag casting# will be eg. 3*30*P Meaning MARCH,30,1946 POST THE #s and we can go from there.

I will look for the part number on the top of the block. thanks for the help so far.

Chad: Asuming your numbers are correct, and the number behind the filter is the part number. You say 11;21;0 was on front of engine, but was in on the block or front cover. Eash of those castings will have a separate date code.

If your date code is correct and on the actual block, you have a 1945 block with dipstick hole drilled and a water pump added. Until you get inside, who knows what else you have, it could be 3" bore or it could be 3-1/8" and I guess it could be 3-1/4 " if someone wanted to bore it in the past.
