Anyone know, fitting for Super C temp. gauge?

While tearing apart the engine on my Super C I mangled the fitting in the thermostat housing that the temperature gauge sensor screws into. Does anyone know if this is a standard plumbing fitting? If so what is it and any good ideas on where I can get one? My old one is pretty well toast and as I had to weld a piece of bar on it to get it out I doubt I can measure it well. Many thanks, tractorsam

Well, I tested the gauge and it wasn"t functioning so I need one of them as well. Have to wait and see what the price is as to whether I get one or just leave the old one to fill the hole. Thanks, Sam

The gauge bulb, (sensor), has a lip on it that seats on a ridge inside the adapter or it leaks, its not a standard plumbing piece. I called OEM and got one from them, they don't list the part but they have them.

Thanks all, sounds like you've saved me a trip to the hardware store. I'll test the gauge tomorrow, try the local CaseIH dealer and NAPA and if I don't find one I'll get back to everyone. Sam

Check and see if IH part # 51 510 D is still a good number. That part number is for ONE of the gauge bushings IH commonly used, and MAY be what you are looking for.

If you get to the CIH Dealers', have them look up the heat gauge. That's where the bushing will be shown, NOT with the cylinder head, as one might expect, but illustrated near the end of the capillary tube extending from the heat gauge.!

Can't you get the correct fitting (gauge bulb adapter) from the CNH dealer?

Last time I was up to the dealer here who's always been pretty good to me we couldn't see the part listed anywhere but now that it's out I'll head back up there tomorrow and see what I can find. tractorsam

If you cant find one in a salvage yard i think i still have one i sent one to ALLEN in NEB and i think i still have one sometimews when you get a new guage one will come with it. Have you put the sensor in boiling water to see if it works. Even a lighted match will make the needle work.

I've not yet tested the sensor, been meaning to do it but just hadn't quite got round to doing it. I was doing something else and removing what was left of that fitting just fell handy. I'll try and give it a whirl in the morning. tractorsam

I know nothin' fer nothin' bout a Super C, but if it is anything like the rest of these darned Farmalls, that is a special fitting and you won't find it in a hardware store.

Fought my Hydro 70 last spring; same problem. Finally, some kind soul on here sent me one off of an "A".

CaseIH still sells the one for the bigger 6 cylinder tractors.

True that you won't find it in a hardware store and maybe even not at a plumbing supply house. I ended up at a NAPA store and they came up with something that worked.
