neighbors have a 1468 that sat for 7 years, motor was stuck, poured diesel down exhaust, got it free, only turned it with crowbar in timing hole,,when we try to start it,scared it might go in orbit from too much diesel in cylinders, what do you think, thought of plugging air intake and cranking excess out, dont know if that will be enough,,otto

Since this is a V8 that normally uses ether to start below 70 degrees, I would roll it over several revolutions to be sure it will not hydo lock then get on the seat and put it in 4th high and hold the brakes. Leave the fuel shut off and roll it over with starter. If it fire up use the clutch to kill it if necessary. Even if the fuel in the cylinder fires off, excess should be blown out on the exhaust stroke and be gone in a couple of revolutions.

Crank for about 20 seconds and then wait at least two minutes for the starter to cool and crank again. Repete this until you see oil pressure on the gauge and then try to start it. If it starts without ether it is probably pretty good, compression wise.

Below 70 degrees the starting procedure is to get the engine rolling over and if it does not fire right off to press and hold the ether assist button. Continue to hold the button down until the white smoke clears. Could take a couple of minutes.

Pull the injectors before you spin it over the first time.

Dunno,

Think I'd just leave the fuel shut off and bump 'er half a dozen times to make darned sure it wasn't hydro-locked.

Did you bar it over one complete turn? You may bend a rod if there's a lot of fuel on top of the pistons. Hal

i would pueach each cylinder tdc and use a long hose to siphon the deisel out. Not sure how much would really be left in there if you just removed the plugs and cranked it over, but if it worries you, use a hose to see if any will siphon out.

People do this all the time, and I've never heard of anyone needing to do much besides cranking it over with no plugs in it.
