H steering shaft removal help

I'm trying to remove the shaft to remove radiator. I loosened u-joint and started screwing shaft out the front of bolster. The problem is the shaft is keyed where it connects to the u-joint, and the key prohibits it from passing through the bearing at the support where the gages are. In researching the archives I've seen no one mention that the shaft is keyed, it is supposed to just screw out. All advice is welcome.

Thanks.
Greg

Take the key out it just sits in a keyway push down on one end and the other will come up. Try pecking on it with a hammer.

Thanks George. I had to do a little more than peck, but I got it out. Now onto the radiator.

And BTW even though that key is a PITA to replace, please do so (after all radiator issues are resolved). If you rely on just the set screw for any length of time, then some day you'll find yourself headed south when the tractor is headed north. I know this and I'm still here.

Be REAL careful and get this key back in there. Just last week I almost had an H get away from me cause I failed to put the key back in. Fortunately, I was nearly stopped when the wheels went south and the steering wheel went North. About 6 inches from a broken neck!
