Called a guy about a farmall 240 today. He said it had bad tires all the way around and water in the engine. It did come with a brush hog but he said he had offers for $1000 as is. I told him I could not give that much. So am I crazy or is he. I see good running 240s sell around here for around $2000-2500 and ones like he has for $500 or less what do you guys think?
Thanks

Old. Bless your heart. You know when to buy and sell. I just buy. Well, only one lately, a IH 240 utility. 5-1/2 acres. Hilly. I've had a BF Avery one front wheel and a Farmall H narrow. Utility says a lot. I gave $1000.00 for mine and spent another K but wouldn't sell it to anyone except Bill Gates today. Some of us think Utility, not Rowcroping. My $30.00 Federal Excise tax since the Spanish-American War worth. HAR HAR HAR. David.

old I sold a good 240 utility a few years back with a 2x14 fast hitch plow for 1000 bucks and it had a fresh overhaul on the engine and new clutch. I wanted shed of and a friend wanted it. He loves it and I hated it. I like them farmalls better.

You should have said "those Farmalls", not "them farmalls". Who taught you grammar? Or did you already know it all and did not have to learn?

Yeah, he was criticizing a guy in the post above and thought maybe his post here needed a little editing.

Although I haven't been here for a while I still don't like to see someone dig someone else like he did above. Apparently he has an ax to grind with the guy so I'll lay off.

It is true, you don't need me and I don't need you.

If the mower was in excellent or like-new condition and worth about $800 I would buy it. Tractor isn't worth more than $200 in my book and I have no use for a brush hog mower...

old, it doesnt take an idiot, or me (haha), to tell you its not worth it. As you said, its a money pit most certainly.

If the engine was just stuck, MAYBE could get it running relatively easy, but from what you describe, its alot more involved then that.

Old if it was a good deal you would have it. A 240 is handy, but there are better values, even with the mower. (unless you need a mower). JimN

Very true I only go for what I figure is worth the $$ or I don't even think about it. I fugure for $1000 it just plain was a money pit and not worth even looking at.
