Seen this on ebay while looking for a volt gauge for my tractor...

Recondition your Batteries

I've never heard of this, its an interesting idea if it actually gets rid of all the sulfate, but of course u have to buy new acid for the battery, by the time you're done, probly be almost as cheap to buy a $30 with a 1 year free replacement and 3 year prorated warranty.

I wonder what the chemical is that they use.

I's nothing new... "battery restore" stuff like that has been around since the Model "T" era.

I remember as a kid in the 60's reading all the ads for the stuff in magazines and the Whitney catalog.

Sounds dangerous. There is a chemical that you can add to batteries that do not have 'sulfate-stop', EBTA or something. It does not do much for cheap motorcycle batteries, but does seem to help make 6V batteries last more than 3 years...

I bought a solagizer solar battery desulfator. I put it on the 6v for the Super M in the fall. I think I paid $20 on eBay.
I figure if it makes a battery last an extra year its worth it. In fact it seems like it does alot of good for the batteries. The battery doesn't seem to discharge as bad and the battery seems to be stronger now.
I've got one on my Cub Cadet too and it seems to have made a big difference in that one. I just hook it up and leave it alone.

Back in the 50's when my dad got laid off and we were hurtin for money, I recall him pouring out the acid in a battery and then filling it with water and shaking and inverting a battery to flush out the deposits on the bottom that would gradually fill it and short out the plates. He would keep doing it till nothing came out, (maybe 40 times), then replace the acid and it would work again. Sounds like that stuff does it chemically.
