Ok so far, medium boil, on low heat, So long as there is water in the oil it won't climb above 212 degrees, Did three gallons as a first test, to make it easier to pour out of the pot into a can. Took about 1 1/2 hrs but I didn't stand over it or stir. I posted a picture of the cooker in the tractor shed implement photos, IF anyone knows how to move that photo to the forum let me know.

Well it took 4 1/2 hrs and did 10 gallons of Hydralic fluid. It seemed to work good. The fluid was amber again with just a hint of greyish darkness. Smelled like new oil again instead of soap. (of coarse this was oil that had only been used less than an hour in a tractor with a lot of water in it) Started off with a new tank of propane, (12.00 bucks) and the burner was on the lowest setting I could get and keep it lit. I estimate I went through maybe 10-15 % of the tank so maybe 2.00 bucks in propane. 10 gallons of hy-tran here is almost 60 bucks. but the big thing is I didn't have to throw it out. Probably not worth your time if you make 100 grand a year but for an old retired guy I thought it worthwhile.

yeah gary. If I made 100,000 a year, i'd pitch it in a heartbeat and just buy new, but then again, I'd have me a nice little kubota CUT and wouldn't need to mess with an old travtor with contaminated fluid, haha.

Got my filter in tonight and plan on filling her up tomorrow and running her a little bit!! should be fun using the hydraulics without all that whining. =)

I forgot to mention that I filtered the oil again a second time through a t shirt in a funnel when I put it in the tractor.

NICE!!

That burner looks like it'd be a little top heavy with a full put on it. Glad u got the water out.

After draining my oil AGAIN today to remove the cover to put my filter in, I still got a little itty bitty bit of that white stuff, heh.

Should be good to go after I get it back together.

It was a little unsteady in the gravel so I moved it to the concrete and it wasn't unsteady at all, the bottom of the pot is curved and the cone shape worked out good. Got about 10 gallons done today. I was wondering if the heater was designed to heat a construction site or something as the sheet metal cone deflects the heat out to the sides instead of straight up. ??

Poured the first batch through a cotton t shirt in a large metal funel into a 5 gal metal can. Oil looks like Hydralic fluid again. When all the water was boiled out of the oil it started to climb above 212 degrees and I knew it was done. No soap residue. T shirt worked good. Hot oil went right through it but the junk didn't. Started on the second batch maybe 4 gallons. Will time this one closer.

Thanks Bob, Anyone know what kind of a heater that is? IT has a metal shallow cone on top. I got it at a flea market. Normally it throws a hot blue flame but I have it turned down so low it shows yellow.

Neat way to dewater oil. But please be careful to not get burned!!!

Don't know what that burner is properly called. But most of our local fire departments have at least a couple of 'em. They use them for boiling salt potatoes and steaming clams at their carnivals/fairs.

Bob: On the east coast we used those burners to boil Lobsters. That was after the PE Islanders quite using lobster to fertilize potatoes. In my lifetime I've seen that, backing the old manure spreader down to the warf for a load of Lobsters.

One wouldn't grow potatoes very economically any more at the price of Lobsters. In those days one really never let on he actually ate Lobsters. It was sign you were the poorest of the poor.
