like others have said, if you turn the key on for the tractor to the run position, hook one jumper cable to the ground of the tractor and the other to the input terminal of the starter it will be fine. DO NOT turn the key to start or the solenoid will turn on and backfeed the 12 volts to the battery which is not what u want. Should jump just fine, just dont leave it on too long.

Yes, you can jump a 6 volt starter with 12 volts, as long as you hook it up at the starter, as described above (below? when I reply to a post on these boards I never know where it will end up).

It"s done all the time. In most twelve-volt conversions, the original 6 volt starter motor is run off 12 volts as a matter of routine.

But DO NOT crank for more than a few seconds at at a time! In just this past weeek, there have been TWO posts on the 9N/2N/8N board from people who have burned up a 6 volt starter in a 12 volt conversion by cranking for too long!

Never hook 12v directly to a 6v battery, the 6v could explode.
Hook one of the 12v booster cables to ground, the other directly to the post on the starter. All ways best to have a helper seated on the tractor.

Thats a Yes, NO and sort of. NO you can't/ shouldn't hook a 12 volt battery to a 6 volt battery it could explode. Yes you can make it start with a 12 volt battery but you hook one jumper cable lead to the frame of the tractor and the other one to the starter stud which will then make the starter turn, but if the 6 volt battery is 100% dead it still will not start. So now you see why I say sort of. As I said don't hook a 12 volt battery to a 6 volt battery or you may end up going to the hospital
