I have experience with the coil/distributor system on engines. But none with Magneto. I was looking and thinking. It would seem to me that I should get the #1 at TDC as usual and simply bolt up the magneto to the engine and make sure the wires from the distributor go to the appropriate holes in the appropriate firing order. Is it more complicated than that????? Seems to me to be simple but I have found my thinking flawed at other times.

Tom-It will work that way as long as You keep the wiring in proper sequence. I have found You generally have to go a little past TDC in order to align the coupling of the mag with the drive mechanism. Also it will help to remember which terminal You have established as number one for future reference.

You need to get No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke and then rotate the rotor to the No1 plug tower and then install the mag or distributor. It will probably take another helper while someone holds their thumb over the plug while the engine is slowly cranked over until the notch on the damper is aligned with the pointer. Whether it's a mag or distributor the
plug wires need to be in the correct firing order
