Bought a gas 706. Drove and shifted OK in driveway. Brought home and ran on road. Tractor jumps out of gear in high range and TA back. TA does not appear to work. Sometimes jumps back in gear(with a jerk). Have not used in field yet, so don't know how it pulls in low range, but seems to pull OK when applying brakes.

Check the shift fork for the high / low range. We had a 706G for a while that started jumping out of high range, then just quit going into high range all together. What happened on ours was that the shift fork ends were wore down, and the small sliding gear eventually had the teeth worn off the front of it due to not being completely engaged. We replaced the fork, and it went into high a few times, but then it quit again. Instead of splitting the tractor to replace that little part, we sold it. Good tractor otherwise.

I have a 706 and was wondering if you could help me diagnose what happened with it.
Hydraulic fluid is ok, oil level ok.
I have a loader on it and it works fine, but to get the tractor to move I have to sort of push off with the bucket to get the tractor to move in reverse.
Forward would probably go that way too, if the tractor is pushed. Any little hills and the tractor just stops moving. Engine runs fine.

Thanks,
Chuck

Any suggestions on where to start? Speed transmission, range transmission, or TA?

first thing is get a owners manual then either a I T manual or a blue Ribbion service manual for it . next do a complet service on the tractor take a good long look at the hyd. filter and see what it has hidden in it or what ya find layen in the cavity where the hyd. filter goes in . As for tacklen a T/A job as a novice this is not something that should be left to someone that has done more then one , not sayen that you could not do it and get by but knowen all the stuff that needs to be done and just how to go about it plus the stands, cherry picker and a couple special tools that make the job go easier along with the test gauges . it is realy hard to say yea this is the problem and this is what ya need to do with out personaly checking the tractor . Heck it could be just low on Hyd . oil or the MCV pump is going out to lunch then again the T/A could be out . i have bought and sold plus worked on more 706's then i can remember . My two best friends are running 706's that i sold them when they needed a tractor and were almost down and out one of them was a die hard deere man and today you could not get that tractor off him for love or money . If ya was close by here in N.E. Ohio i would be glad to take a llook at it and tell stright foward what it needs and what ya can get by with.
