I finaly got my belly pump out and now I'm trying to replace the seals on both the pump and transmission? Does the coupler have to come off before I can remove the seal? Any advice on seal removal? My last post a couple guys said the flange came off with right hand threads but I don't know how to hold the shaft from turning. Thanks in advance for your help. What a great website.

Well, these things can be jammed on there real tight. I tried jamming the gears with various things on mine, but no luck. I finally ended up taking the pump apart so the gears were exposed. Then made a clamp out of 2 inch thick oak (2 half circles) the same diameter as the gear. I put that in a big vise and clamped it down real tight. A bar in the slot of the coupler and a good sized hammer finally broke it loose. I did not have an impact wrench at the time I did mine, but I think that might work along with jamming the gears with a piece of soft steel. I would not use anything hard to jam the gears, as that could cause damage to the gears.

Tried the rod down the fill tube but couldn't get it to catch on any gears. Made the tool for the impact but still the shaft just spins. Have to figure out a way to hold the shaft and then it should be a snap. (pump end)

You have to take the pump assembly out of the reservoir to get at the oil pickup tube. I have a piece of heavy aluminum wire that I use to keep the gears from turning.

Thanks, will pull it out tomorrow, didn't think there was a way without further disassembly. Is the gasket for the pump readily available, how expensive?

If ya have a impact wrench get a pice of 1/2 inch keystock and cut it as long as the slot is wide then weld a 3/4 nut to it and make your weld a good weld thru the hole as a plug weld and that way you just buzz it off no need to try and hold it . You now have a I H special tool for removal and instaltion . .

You have to put a rod down the fill pipe to basically jam the gears. The you can take off the coupling and change the seal.
