I'm pulling the front bolster off the tractor to replace the front seal on my Cub. How do I remove the steering shaft out of the front axile?

Thanks in advance,
Mark

I am replacing the front crank engine seal. I have tried to remove the steering wheel bolt but it will not move. I also took the two bolts out of steering box and turned the steering wheel counter clockwise and it jams at the last portion of the worm gear and will not go any further (I did not force).

I just want to make sure that I'm doing it right.

Thanks,

Mark

That should work. With the 2 bolts out, the bearing should slide up the steering shaft so you can see what is happening a little better. Possibly the sector shaft or gear is a little loose allowing the gear to move out of line, causing a jam. You might try jacking the front axle up enough to take the load off the tires. Then try moving the center steering arm left-right/up-down to see if it frees the worm shaft to come the rest of the way out.

Are you talking about replacing the front engine seal?? Or some of the steering gear seals??

A more fundamental question is why are you trying to rmove it at all? Take the one bolt out at the support by the steering wheel and leave the shaft and wheel with the bolster.

take the two bolts out that hold the retainer on, then turn the steering wheel, the end of the shaft has a worm gear on it. try one way then the other. i think its counterclockwise if i remember.
