Aneighbor has discovered that I'm a Farmall guy and wants to look into doing a ring job on his 340.

I'll help but all my stuff is letter series and I really don't have any reference stuff for a 340. What's the motor? Wet sleeve or dry?

Thanks to both of you!

If it were my motor I'd be doing as you suggest. I've got several 113s and 123s under my belt. I'll certainly scope things out while we've got it open, but the owner is thinking he'll get away with a ring job. Not my prime idea of a project, but wanted to have enough info to tell him what he might be gettin' into.

Certainly if we're drivin' the pistons out, I'll be puttin' new O-rings on the sleeves, which will seem like a cheap getaway to him. I'll pay for them myself if it comes to that.

Apart from that, unless the jugs are way out of whack or the bearings shot, I don't see him springing for the bucks.

But I'll try to help him get rid of the smoke.

Thanks again.

I agree with toro. At the very least pull the sleeves and replace the sleeve seals, might as well while u are in there. also check the sleeves for wear and taper

They are wet sleeves. You should consider putting a sleeve kit in it. Have the crankshaft measured for wear too. Close tolerances on the bearings determine's good oil pressure. Hal
