I have been thinking about installing a 3 point hitch on my 50 H to allow for the use of a 5 foot rotary mower and blade. My question is..... .do I need to install counter weights on the front of the tractor to use these implements safely? Thanks

I put a Saginaw 3pt on my H several years ago. Works great. I use it for post hole digging, but only occasionally for mowing, I have a 300u for that. It really makes the tractor more useful. I think the Saginaw hitch is better than some of the OE hitches. A 3pt box on the back of an H is handy for hauling stuff around.

I am struggling to install the Saginaw 3pt hitch to my '46 H. It has a rear-mounted ball valve and handle attached to the Lift-All lines run from the right side of the belly pump. I've hooked up the top hydro line to the top of the cylinder, the bottom line to the lower cylinder end. I"m using just one cylinfer. Hitch will go up, haltingly, but has no power to lift a 5" mower. It goes down quickly and surely (unlike a gravity drop), but as it does, oil spurts out the reservoir dipstick/relief valve. Do I have the lines backwards? Or is the pressure relief valve blown? Any trouble-shooting help would be appreciated.

Not a problem, Hs are heavy enough. Please add a overrunning clutch adapter to the PTO. Farm stores sell them. This prevets the tractor from continuing to move when the clutch is pushed in. (The mower's rotational inertia keeps the gears going and drives the rear wheels when you do not want them to be turning) even for experienced operators, they are life and property insurance. JimN

You don't need any extra weights. I've used a five foot mower behind an H and an Allis WD. Also an eight foot wide back blade with no problem. We installed a ball valve in line with our 3 point on the H. Makes it nice with the mower to hold it at a set height. Also nice on a post hole auger to use as a flow control by only opening the valve a little bit.

probably not, since the mowers aren't that ungodly heavy. I have a cat 2 blade on my 300u, and the front has never come up at all.

If you got extra weights laying around, throw them on, it wont hurt anything
