Aquired a 966, always was used with a loader, never pto work. Pto linkage is missing. Recently got tractor running and found pto spinning, found it was engaged, disengaged it and it still spins the same, not just freewheeling, i put a block of wood against it and it feels like it's still powered....any ideas?

Vet, The PTO on my 966 turns when not 'engaged' but slowly, and you can easily stop with with your bare hand. Is this critical. Is there an adjustment somewhere to alleviate this?

No there is no adjustment , to fix it the unit will have to come out and get into the brake pistons as the buttons may be woren down or ya may have some weak springs. as it is spring applied and pressure release.

If the PTO linkage is missing then the valve will not stay down and this will allow for partical engage pressure to start locking up the clutch pack. Now if and when ya put linkage back on it and it is still doing this then (1 ) your PTO brake buttons are wore out (2) clutch pack is welded together from slipage. . And before ya just start tearing things apart get a Book as it just does not come STRIGHT OUT .
