Well, I found the flair-fit threaded barbed hose ends. There were totally unavailable in our little town, so I drove toward the nearest city. The first suburban Auto Zone I passed had them. The manager (a tall blonde with a nice smile) told me she always checks the bin once a week and re-orders any fittings she is sold out of.So, the Super C has a new neoprene fuel line. I put teflon tape on the threads, being VERY carful the first few threads had no tape, so hopefully I won"t have to remove the fuel line to get teflon out of the screen in the carb inlet (if a Zenith carb has one) or needle valve/seat (if the Zenith has no screen). Then I tightened everything and checked. No leaks. She started and ran fine, at all speeds. I never consider any repair on a tractor satisfactory until I know if it will pull well, and I don"t like using improvised expedients on gravity feed fuel systems; we"ll see how it runs when I do a little shredding or bedding (the hardest work I do with this tractor). But I must say, now that I know the original line was steel, the neoprene one stamds out like a Yugo at a Ferrari auction. Looks like I"ll be teaching myself to flair-fit or pressure-fit brake lines...
