Hi all. i have a T-20 crawler tractor that has a few minor problems. was the t-20 closer to a 10-20 than a F12 or F20? the F-4 magneto on the crawler isn"t making a spark, so i figgered it could be the magnet isn"t strong enough. have any of you ever charged one of the old horseshoe magnets for these old mags? i"m trying to get the ol" crawler going again, it hasn"t been started in the last 15 years, but it gets turned over every week so it doesn"t get stuck or anything. i don"t have to do any real mechanical work on it other than the mag and carburetor.

Thanks
Sam

Pretty simple really,Take off the magnet, wrap the logo side with some wire in one direction, then cross over and wrap the other side in the opposote direction. Put a steel bar on the ends of the magnet, it should cover both ends. MOMENTARILY touch the ends of the wire to a 12 volt battery. I have had them work on the first try, but have had to do one a couple of times to get it back.I think I used 10 gauge wire

Yes, They Can Be Re-magnetized in reply to Sam from WA, 04-20-2007 17:31:38
I don't know the details, but it's done all the time. I know a man in Durango, CO who had it done for the mag on his McCormick-Deering.

I looked around on the web, and found it listed as a step in several trouble-shooting procedures, but couldn't find any details.

But I'll bet others know.

As far as spark, have you checked the points at all? The lack of spark could simply be that the points are dirty. Thats all I had to clean sparkwise on the F-4 mag on my F-12.
