I am about to pull my hair out! I have just aquired a IH 2424, it runs good for a while but after i start puting a load on it and it gets warmed up it will shut down and not start again for about an hour, after it cools down it will start and run a while longer(aprox 20 min)then shut down again, when it shuts down it does so like turning the key off. when it shuts down it still has good spark. Fuel seems to be ok going to the carb but im not sure if it is going thru it, there is some kind of a electric float on the carb and i wonder if it is getting hot and shuting down the fuel? If anyone has any suggestions i could use to help trouble shoot this i am "all ears" Thanks, Seabee!

My guess would be the fuel shut off solenoid. If you hold your hand on it you should be able to feel the fuel shut off solenoid click when you switch it on and off.

If the 2424 has an electric fuel pump like the 2444 make sure that the pump is still running when ithe engine stops on you. When it fails it usually does not stop the engine as fast as the fuel solenoid does.

I would suspect the coil. When it dies check for spark.

My son is a Seabee. Right now he is in Gulfport Ms. Good luck on the IH. Do those carb's have the screen on the inlet like the old M's?

The PTO control lever is located just in front of the left brake housing. To the rear is engaged, forward is disengaged. When forward it tends to be in the way of your left leg.

Live PTO refers to being able to have the PTO running while disengaging the ground speed of the transmission. This is accomplished by using a two stage clutch. Push the clutch part way down and it releases the transmission input shaft. All the way down also releases the PTO drive.

Independent PTO refers to having separate clutch controls for the PTO and transmission. An IPTO can be engaged without stopping the transmission.

Check for proper spark when it shutsdown. This is a symptom of ignition coil issues.

There are two ways to check the fuel shut off solenoid under the carb. After it dies, quickly unscrew it from the bottom of the carb, lay it against a bare patch of metal or something with a ground, and then turn the key on. If it doesn't move inward quickly, it is dead. Also, with our 2500, when you turn the key to the run position, you can hear a click when the solenoid energizes. If you hear it when it is cold, but then don't hear it after it stalls, that would seem to make it the culprit.
