Having troubles putting bull gears back on the H. They slid right off but won't go back on. We've done this through the PTO hole before on another H, but now we can't get it with the entire top cover off. It's been a while, but are week overlooking something stupid? Is there one gear offset or something? it goes on about 1/4" enough to know it's spinning w/the axle, it wiggles all around, but won't slide on at all (yes - it is started on the splines as much as we can see on the bottom). Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Hi - Noticed on the forum you've been working with your bull gears. I have to pull a right rear axle on a Super C. We're have some bad bolt problems but can see that the right side gear is loose in the box. When I get the top fully off I'm wondering if I'm goint to have a problem getting the gears back in correctly. Do you know where I can get a quick diagram of proper installation? I've called on the linked book salaes sites but so far not found one that includes this info. Just a picture which isn't good enough to bet on. If anyone has such a diagream I have a fax 2483498729 and would much appreciate it. Any additional tips not yet mentioned on the forum. Thanks, Ed

I believe there is about a 1/4 inch before the splines start in the hole of the bull gear. It might just be the friction that is turning the axle when you turn the bull gear. Sometimes it can really be a pain to just like a clutch disc to get the splines started.

Not really, if it came off without problems, it will go back on. If you can get the retaining bolt started, you should be able to pull it on. If the bolt is too short, use a longer one, if you have room without hitting the housing.

It was started on the splines 1/4" - just took a bigger hammer. hopefully the other side goes easier!

More than likely there is some wear between the axle splines and the gear. When you took it apart this wear was matched so it slid apart. When reinstalling you were probably lining up on different splines that caused a slight interference fit. To avoid this, just mark the relation between the axle and gear and put it back on in the same position.
