My mother passed away and we are trying to decide what to do with my father's prized Farmall tractor. I believe it is a 1926 vintage. My dad passed away 11 years ago and it was running at the time of this death. I remember him telling me to be careful when I cranked it since this tractor potentially could break your arm. If anyone could tell me what value to place on this tractor I would be most grateful. I know this is difficult because of variables related to condition which you can't see. I could take a digital photo if anyone is interested. Thank you.

I forgot the camera and remembered to late to turn around due to distance traveled so I don't have the picture I promised. Maybe next week if that becomes a necessity. I found the original owners manual and have learned it is a Model F-12 Farmall. The owners manuel is titled McCormick-Deering-Farmall Tractor. I was amazed at how informative the manual is. It lists all the parts with numbers and some "how to" information. I also have the serial number for the tractor (FS 20985). From my dad's notes the tractor was overhauled in 1954 with parts from the owners manual documented by my dad ($ 72). The tractor does not have the original iron tires---they are rubber. One tire in the back is almost new and holding air, the other will probably need to be replaced. The front tire appears to be in good shape as well. The engine has been sheltered from the weather and I believe with some cleaning will startup. The tractor paint is not good but the rust is superficial and could be cleaned up and painted. We may have a member in the family interested and we have some people from outside who have expressed and interest as well. I would be most apppreciative if anyone could give me some guidance as to what a fair price would be for both buyer and seller. Thank you so much. Curtis Hargus

Thank you for your kindness and condolences to a stranger. I loved my parents deeply and it has been and still is difficult to deal divying up the personal possessions and coping with the emotions. I will try and answer the questions from all the responses I received in one posting. I hope to be able to get a picture soon and I will post it so maybe someone can give me a better perspective on the tractor. If I didn't live in the city or had a place to store it I would consider the rebuilding process. I am planning to rebuild the old kerosene engine (well pump). This took some doing with my wife and I know the tractor is a no go in the backyard. The tractor does have rubber tires which dad replaced about 13-15 years ago. I may be wrong on the vintage of the tractor since the tractor has always had rubber tires. I remember dad always cautioning me when I would crank it because he said this model had a reputation for reversing the crank and breaking arms. The tractor did run about 13 years ago. The last memory I have of my dad and the tractor was plowing up potatoes. He bought a plow (potato plow?) at an auction and we hooked it up to the tractor and it brought the potatoes to the surface as we had hoped. A lot easier than digging. I have this experience dubbed from 8 mm to DVD and it is a precious memory. I know of two people locally who may have an interest to buy the tractor which is why I am seeking a fair price. The tractor engine has been sheltered but the back tires and rear has been exposed to the elements. It is not rusted out but does have surface rust. Thanks again for our reply and I will post the pictures hopefully by early next week. Thanks again for your friendliness.

If that tractor was your fathers prize posession, Why in the world would you sell it? That is part of farming and your fathers history. Once it is gone it will be next to impossible to track it down and get it back. It will make a great project for you and your kids to enjoy in the future. There are many tractor shows and other events that could be greatly enjoyed by your family by keeping this tractor. I have two of my fathers tractors and one of my grandpa's tractors, and I wouldn't dream of selling any of them. They will be passed on to my boy's.

If indeed it is a Farmall, and it is a 1926, it would just about have to be a Farmall Regular. I can only guess at the actual value, but it would be somewhere between $300 for a tractor that is basically scrap, which I doubt yours is, up to maybe $3,000 or higher if the tractor runs good, drives good, and looks good. If it still has the original all steel wheels, that would be a plus. If it has been converted to rubber tires, then the condition of those tires will play a big part in the actual value.

The valu of the tractor will be when the highest bidder wins at the sale. There has to be someone in your area that would have an idea of the valu. Does it start and run are the tires any good there are more questions to be answered.
