Do you mean the plastic "wheel" with the notches on the outside? If so, they are called "plates" and are often found on ebay. A #56 planter typicaly used a 24-cell plate. The number on the back of the plate indicates the size of the opening for seed. An IH 56 is by no means a modern planter, but if set up correctly, they will do a very nice job in well-tilled earth.

If that #56 is a 2 row, then most times it was set up for a 16 cell plate; if 4 row then a lot of them were set for 24 cell...by the time 4 row planters became common most farmers had switched to 24 cell because of planting higher populations. The plastic plate will have numbers stamped on them....like C1-16 or C1-24, C7-16 or C7-24X. Count the "holes" on the outside edge to find number of cells. Newer plastic plates had a "wear gauge" on the outside edge...little hole bored part way thru; when you can see right thru it, then it's worn out.

Lincoln Ag made (and still makes)the majority of plastic plates. Their number is 402-464-6367, very helpful people. My experience is on EBay you get worn out plates at higher price than Lincoln will charge for new. (No, I don't work for them or own the company.)
