Just got a kill from a guy I know. Said his wife just died from a fall off a Farmall H. He said they where driveing do the road, black top and she fell off the back of the tractor and hit her head on the road, spent a couple days in the hospital but she was gone any how from the head injury. Sad to here rideing on tractors when there only room for one person isn't good lets think about what we do and how we do things. By the way hes wants to sell the tractor now says he can't even look at it any more. Told me it runs good he just wants it gone so he doesn't have to remember what happened. We need to hear about these things and post them on here occassionally just to start the dialogue to remind us all to be careful. On our old H, I had a shiny spot worn on the left side of the drawbar where I rode for hours, days on end. But that was in the 60's. I can remember a few time when we hit a chug hole and I would go airborn, come back down and keep going as if nothting ever happened. I also had a "shiny" spot worn on the platform of an old AC 66 pull type compbine. Over the years I should have been killed about 30 times I guess. What is that saying about God looking over small animals and idiots? Gene

Riding on tractor drawbar is not a good idea but back when I was growing up it was done all the time and I never heard of anyone getting hurt on the other hand I knew of several that were killed by accidents while working with horse drawn equipment and also while riding in or on farm trucks.

That is, indeed, sad. I saw people with homemade platforms on the back of their tractors for people to stand on. I thought it was a good, safe alternative. I may rethink that now.

Only half way safe way to ride on a tractor is if you have another seat on it. Other wise to many things can happen that will get a person hurt, and ones with out fenders its even eaier to get hurt on. Sad thing is not only did he loose his wife but now hes getting charged with man slater because of it

Yep one of the first things that need to be done is get rid of about 9/10 of all lawyers. Then set term limits on any body in office from the mayor all the way up, and not let them run for any other office either. Or in other words once elected only one more office. Also all of them should pay into S.S and stop this pension thing. I could go on and on about this stuff

Old I do agree about those term limits, and lawyers. I also support this guy in his decision not to keep her alive as a vegetable if that was the case. I am a proud veteran of 8 years in the army. Sometimes lately I have wondered about that. I to could go on and on, but that is for that other ridicules forum.

Man slaughter? No, I don't believe that will stick. The cause of death was neglegence. Not only his, but hers as well.

I'll ask a lawyer friend of mine what he thinks.

Mike, I don't look at it as neglegence. It is a tragic accident. This man should not have to endure this from our elected officials. He has enough to deal with as it is. He will never get over loosing his wife. He certainly shouldn't have to go through a trial. Hopefully a jury will have enough sense to do away with these charges. Here is some real neglegence sending our young men into combat riding in a SUV. We had thousands of APCs and sent young men to die in a jeep.

Missouri, part of it was because of how it happened the other part was he had the doctors pull the plug on the machine keeper her alive.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Just yesterday I was leaving my house on my M with the grader blade on the back when I friend came walking up and asked if I could give him a ride down a few blocks to his house, I said ok and then we looked around for a place for him to sit and both of us agreed it wouldn't be safe.There just is no safe place to take second person, but there is plenty of bad places. I hate to see posts like this but we all need reminding to keep it safe.

That's sad. I'm sorry to hear that. That's why I don' like people to ride with me I have to agree with georgeky on that one. the only time I let someone ride with me is when I am driving a tractor with a cab. as I said earlier that's sad.

I grew up riding the back of grand-dad"s M.
Managed to survive.
Now, many years later and surviving 2 combat tours in RVN as well, I shudder at the thought.
I saw an idiot on a riding mower the other day holding a 4-year-old.
I just wanted to slap him.

A good friend lost a leg after falling off a riding mower driven by his mother when he was three years old. I have caught my mother in law mowing with my grand sons riding on the mower with her 3 or 4 times. I finally had to talk pretty severe to her, but got it stopped I hope.

They just buried a 44 year old father and his 5 year old son in the same casket. Both were riding on a 9N Ford pulling harrows in their yard when they hooked something solid, tractor went over backwards killing them instantly. Very very sad.----- --Harold
