Would any one know if the large springs are still available, that go on the long control rod that goes from the touch control to the rear rockshaft ?

Aftermarket or salvage ?

Thanks,
scotty

If you have the original arm on there and not one from another tractor then I might be able to help some. The spring is about 2 3/4 inches long and has a gap of about 1 1/4.

I looked and looked for one and ended up getting a compression spring from Fastenal. The gauge and length were right but the opening was a little to small.

I heated it up and bent it open some then stuck it on a 1" water pipe and just beat it til it was back straight and loked right.

The part number was 110166728. There are two in the bag so if you mess up one theres always a spare. Cost $5.85. #54 compression spring.

Only one on mine and its rather small compared to what is on a 140.

The spring fits over a 2" long pipe that is part of the "collar" on the control arm. On the side of the collar is a bolt that fits into the hole on the lift arm of the rocker arms. One end of the spring rests against the collar and the other end rests against a washer that is welded onto the lift arm. This only gives 3/4 of an inch of shock/compression to the spring. This is why you see a lot of the lift arms bent or replaced, there just isnt much spring to absorb the shock and the arms end up bent out of shape.

Read it again Scotty. Theres two in a package, thats a per package price. Thats still double of the price a year ago tho. Tax and all on mine was $6.99.

And even when you get it you will have to open the coil up more. Use a small torch and do one coil at a time, that metal dont want to bend easy. It will kind of get out of shape so then put it over a pipe and get a big hammer and just beat the crap out of it. Worked for me anyways and the skin grew back over my knuckles within a week.
