Hello everyone. I know I recently posted that I had to spend my tractor money on my family, and was giving up looking for an H for a while. Well, that's true, but darn it if a nice gentleman I met didn't go and find me an H his friend had, and call me up today to come look at it. Who am I to say no? It's a '44 H, and close to my home. Not sure on the price yet, I'm guessing I'll offer $500 since it doesn't run and needs a number of parts, and HOPEFULLY, we can work out a payment plan. The motor has been rebuilt and was working fine so I'm told, but the tractor quit for some unknown reason and they were unable to get it started again. The farm is converting to vinyards, so the M's and H are too big, so the owner is selling. I didn't meet the owner, as he was working out of town.

Anyway, I couldn't get a better angle on the left side of the tractor, since the shed wall was in the way, but I wanted to ask about this manifold. It looks new. Is there any way to tell if it's original and just refurbished? I'm hoping it's an original all-fuel manifold that just needs the heat shield, but I don't know how to tell. It looks square, like I've seen them, but other than that, I'm clueless.

If that casting code is J then its older than the tractor.

The casting code letter "J" indicates the year 1940. The letter "I" indicates 1939, which is the first year of production for the H.

Thast what Im saying, since J is 1940, and he says its a 44 then the manifold is older than the tractor.

May be a IH replacement part cast in 1964, don't think they were past a single D suffix after part # in 1940.

It is definitely an all fuel manifold. It looks very clean but you will most likely find that the baffle is rusted in position pretty securely. If not and it is functional you've got an unusual one. There are lot's of those manifolds around for the H but most are in really bad shape. I've been lookling for a dual fuel manifold for my SH for three years with no luck.

I'm no expert but judging by the by the number "plate" and casting codes along with the shape of the manifold I'd say that is an original.

Also because the tractor is not currently woking and the fact that there are so many "H"s I'd say try offering $350-$400 first, see what he says and go up from there.

There aren't "so many H's" around these parts. M's were the work horses around here, and seem to be everywhere. H's seem a lot more rare.

The tractor not running means (as indicated) 350$is a better price. It is a dual fuel Manifold, is it a dual fuel tractor?
That baby looks very clean for its age, meaning it has been at least looked after. Do it, JimN
