NH 320 behind an M?

I've come across a NH 320 small square baler for a decent price. I believe that NH recommends a minimum of 50 HP to run this machine. I know the M is not putting out that much but I thought that maybe the 50 hp is an overstatement.

Anybody think I'd be able to pull this thing ok?

My dad in the past has run a NH 310 and it runs it OK. That is alot of baler and like others said the lack of a IPTO makes baling a challenge with it. The balers he has used also had throwers on them. He lost a clutch the one year using the 310 and not being able to slip it out of gear fast enough. Be careful and it should go ok

the 320 was the largest capacity baler baler NH made, over 100 strokes a minute. it could eat a lot of hay but it really 'rocks' the tractor. I have ran one for years with a 85 hp tractor.

Dad ran a NH 67 square baler for many years with an H. An M should be no problem at all.

Live PTO is nice with a square baler, but you will get good at seeing a heavy spot and sliding the tractor out of gear... or making smaller windrows.

Your M will pull it anywhere. The lack of live power can be a challenge sometimes. The ground speed can be to fast in really thick hay. I rake smaller windrows to allow for that.

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to pick up that baler next weekend. I'll let everyone know how it goes after the 1st cut.

The old M is a lot more tractor than some folks give them credit for. I think HP then was different than now. I have baled lots of hay with one in the past. I use a 350 diesel now because of the IPTO and fuel consumption. I wish the M had IPTO and I would use it, I love to hear that thing purr.
