I was using the 706 to run a TMR mixer one afternoon, then the following day went to feed again, and no PTO. I mean NOTHING. This unit was rebuilt about 2 years ago, and even though it sees everday use it seems as if it should have lasted longer than that. Any ideas as to what could have happened so suddenly? It is full of hyd oil to the full mark and was at the time it quit working. No warning, no slip, no nothing.Just quit

Sorry, I told you wrong about the spool comimg out (it's been awhile since I've been in one). It is held in place by a retainer ring. To remove the spool to replace the tiny broken dowel pin, you will need to unscrew the large hex headed part( called the control valve cover )that the shiny spool slides into. If the dowel pin is broken , and I believe it is , the top portion of the spool rod will come out still installed in the control valve cover. To remove the bottom portion of the valve remove the hex head plug on the bottom of the pto unit and the bottom portion should drop out. To reinstall the valve and spool assembly, install the complete assembly from the bottom ,install hex plug , then install top cover over the top of the spool rod.

Most likely the tiny dowel pin that connects the top portion and the bottom portion of the valve spool that controls PTO engagement, has broken . Remove the control linkages to the valve spool( found on the top left side of the PTO unit), pull upward on the small square block with the hole through it (the bottom of the rubber dust boot may need to be worked loose from its attachment). If the spool comes completely out , the tiny dowel pin is broken. If you need a parts book view and repair instructions from shop manual , e-mail me and I will send them to you.

I just checked that, and the rod with the square block will not come out. I have not yet checked the pressure when I engage the PTO, but I am almost sure it is zero as nothing seems to change when I pull up on the lever.

It is odd that it would just quit all of a sudden like that with no prior warning at all, especially after you've just had it rebuilt.

Does the hitch/hydraulics work okay? Perhaps there is a problem with the shaft going back?

If they are operational, the problem then has got to be in that darned PTO unit somewhere.
