farmall a and farmall b engines

I was wanting to know what the differance is in the farmall A block, head, and other engine accessories compaired to the farmall B, I know the B has a larger cubic inch but the bore and stroke are the same.

Whoever told you that gave you bad information. Don't take any more advice from them.

Farmall A & B engines are exactly the same.

someone sure has given you some bad info. you need to get an I@T manual then you can read all the specs yourself.

David: There is no difference between A and B engines, both C-113 and both the same block part number. The SA up to serial number 310000 and all C had a different block part number, and the difference was port for hydraulic pump, they were still C-113.

The block did change substancially for SC and SA after serial 310000. It was C-123 in SC and with thicker sleeves, remained C-113 in SA. The last 1,957 SA built were called SA1 and had C-123 specs.

That doesn't mean you don't have a particular older tractor with C-123 specs. The original C-113 had 3" bore. Everyone of these engines going back to 1939 can be modified for 3-1/8" bore sleeves. Some even have 3-1/4" bore sleeves. any of these last modifications will have taken place since tractor was new. It is possible with some of them to change crank and get C-135 engine. Whether any of these changes are worthwhile is questionable. IH did change that block as I indicated in the first two paragraphs, thus the casting may have been beefed up in certain places.

Hugh, years ago I had the engine on my '45 B bored out and went with the 3 1/4" oversize and pulled this tractor for at least 10 yrs with no problems. They are a good engine. I was in the Springfield,Mo area a couple of weekends ago and met Jimmy King and Mr and Mrs Harley. Nice people. Talk later. Tom

All the A's, SA's (except the last ones, designated SA-1, which had 123 cu in engines) and B's had the same block & head from the factory, & had 113 cu in. They might have been "modified" over the years, as a lot of the "updates" will work in in the older blocks with out major machine work. I don't think the A & B series ever had any "high altitude" modifications like those available for the other letter tractors, but I might be wrong on that. The only difference between the A & the SA was live hydraulics. B's never did have hydraulics. The C, which replaced the B has hydraulics. I've got a SA, a B & a SC. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

it cant be larger cubic inch with the same bore and stroke, bore and stroke is what makes cid, they are the same, whole tractor is the same, B-narrow front, A-wide front

I am not an expert, but I don't think there is any difference at all in an A or B engine.
