I"m trying to remove the axle mounting bracket on my Super A to facilitate cleaning and paint prep. I"ve removed the axle and steering column. the bracket has six bolts, that I can see. I"ve tapped, lightly, with a screw driver, the seam between the bracket and the bolster but it dosen"t seem to want to come free. I"ve loosened the bolts, of course, but I don"t want to bugger this. Am I going in the right direction? Thanks

Tim

The steering arm is keyed to the shaft with a woodruff key and the shaft is tapered at that point.
It could be that the key has sheared, in which case it will be significantly more difficult to remove the arm. A combination of tapping, heat, and possibly a gear puller should get it to break free and come off.

I can take some force. I used a dead blow sledge hammer. It may have been there for 60 years.

Have you removed the steering arm?

I haven"t removed the center steering arm. I was able to remove the castle nut but The arm, itself. is resistant and, again, I am hesitant to "strong arm" it off. I thought it would come, complete, with the bracket.

OK, It looks like the steering arm has to come off first. There apears to be a woodruff key but I don't see that it is fitted into the shaft. Suggestions on best avenue of attack. Heat? Again, I am reluctant to do more than "tap" the arm. The castle nut has been removed. I'm frustrated at the moment.
