M cast iron shift knob, old seat, etc.....

So far I can't find an actual serial number. The locations given in the serial number directory to the left of this page says to look on the bellhousing and transmission but I aint seeing anything looking like a serial number.

This thing has the old style seat with the toolbox under it along with a cast iron shift knob. Does this make it a WWII production model???? Is it worth a premium and needs a full restoration or can I just do a mechanical restoration, leave the little dents in the sheetmetal, and put her back to work???

I also met another guy on the way home that has a bunch of old famalls (around 5 or 6) that he might just let me have to get them out of his way and seems to think that one of the H's he has has a cast iron knob and old style seat too. Mike in CA, aren't you looking for parts from one of these?

If anything, there should be evidence of the plate there. Four holes or four rivet heads or the leftovers of the plate. If it's been removed you will never know the exact serial number. The engine serial number is on a machined flat spot below the spark plugs. That will be CLOSE, but not the same.

Grab some casting dates. These are cast on the larger pieces like the engine block and are in the format of 11-22-X; two numbers, and a letter. 0 is 1945, N is 1944, M is 1943, L is 1942.

As far as premium... no. They have an interesting story, but that's about it. A good conidition '42-45 will fetch the same as a same condition '46-53.
