Liftall reservoir question

The liftall on my '47 M stopped working, and I found hydraulic oil running out of the hole in the bottom of the bell housing. Is the bell housing part of the reservoir for the liftall, or has something blown out or cracked to allow the hydraulic fluid to find its way into the bell housing? What normally plugs the hole in the bottom of the bell housing? Doesn't appear to be a threaded hole for a screw in plug. If something has blown out, will I need the M Service Manual, the Liftall manual, or both to fix it?

Thanks for any info.

Mitch

Thanks for the responses, guys. The only cover I can see under there is the one just to the rear of the Liftall. I pulled that cover off, but can't really tell what's going on yet. A little bit of sludge in there, and something that looks like a piece of inch-wide, thin plastic tape (?) about a foot long laying in a heap on the top of that cover.

I've got the manuals on order from this site and will tear into it more once I know how things are supposed to work and how they come apart and go back together.

Thanks again.

Mitch

I had the same problem on my H. My seal blew out and it leaked fluid out that hole. That hole is there for drainage - no plug needed. I got the seal from IH for only a few bucks. It took about an our or so to change.

the bellhousing is not part of the pump there should be a coverplate under the bottom of the bellhousing that can be removed then you will see how the pump is set up good chance you have blown a seal
