I have painted them silver/white/ and cream over the years. I paint them cream from now on. I would suppose that they were painted grey when new, just as mentioned below. Many other tractor brands have the letters painted and it looks good, so i follow suit and only because everyone else does. It is commendable that you are trying to be as accurate as you can, but some things i believe such as that can be left up to the owner IMHO. It is all good as far as i'm concerned. Those "other guys" can sweat the details. LOL

I restored a 29 10-20 a few years ago and when looking for parts, I ran across a suprising amount of original unrestored 10-20s and 15-30s and 22-36s. I only saw one that had letters on the radiator painted and it looked like some one just painted them on. Some old pics I found showed the letters the same shade as the rad tank even though the pics were black and white if they were painted white they would have stood out. The original color of the tractor was grey but not light grey. I was told by a guy who knew tons about them and had acually found the formula for the grey in an old dealership records. The formula was for mixing a 55 gallon drum and I don't remember the exact amount there were 2 colors used, battleship grey and black.. It made for the darker shade of grey. The "back of my mind "tells me it was 54 gallons of grey to one gallon black. Some of the lighter grey ones you see may just be faded or had been repainted years ago. The paint they used back then was not very good compared to todays standards. I think there may still be pics of my 10-20 in the tractor photo section on this site if you want to see a shot of the front end.

I found a picture of a restored 10-20 and it had white letters. Some of these men that post on here own the 22-36, so they may know the correct color. Hal
PS: I looked under that IH paint committe too.
Didn't even see the 22-36 listed.

You didn't see it in the Paint Committee decisions because IH didn't build a 22-36 tractor. They built a 15-30 tractor rated 22-36.

I think your info is wrong the build a 22-36 that was ship over seas and it had 22-36 on the back finder , the ones in the usa had 15-30 on the fender and not 22-36 becase of restrukering the trac tor as a new tractor becase of gov standers, , i might be wrong but this info came from ih poeple at the topeka kansas show this winter, i might have some of it wrone but i am shure what htey told me was right,

I didn't see any colors listed for them either.
I guess most were gray. We had a 1926 10-20 bought new before I was born and it was gray. I have a picture of a 10-20 painted green and it looks nice too. Hal
