here is the deal. i jumped it on 12 volts (6 volt system) to get it runing and ran perfect for 2 hours pulling kids around. and when i went to start it up agin (the battery was charged by then) it wouldent start it would turn over very good but it just wouldent start. and yes the button was out. did this last week to the only way i got it started was pulling it. coil,points,wiring is just fine.

A bad condensor can cause just the problem you are descibing. (Jumping from 12 volts - will start right up. Pull it two feet and it will fire right off. Crank over good on 6 volts but will not start.)

Check for weak spark while cranking.

If it starts when you pull it off or with the crank, then your battery does not have a sufficient charge on it. All your amperage is going to the starter and not enough to the coil!

Dear James,
Buy or borrow a cheap voltmeter, then with the points closed check the voltage on the positive side of the coil which should be on the distributor side. The voltage should be 0. Now go to the negative side of the coil which is the battery side and the voltage should be 6. Both tests are with points closed, key on, and engine stopped. Let us know what you find.
