Hey guys, I don't know much about tractors but just got a Farmall M given to me. It runs good, holds good oil pressure, but I noticed that when you crack the throttle a puff of white smoke comes out. It does not smoke while working, or a an idol, but also puffs a little white smoke when I shut it off. How bad of a problem do I have. Thanks for any help.

I have a Farmall A that I just rebuilt the engine in and my guess is that it may be antifreeze in the combustion chamber. But check to see if there is any antifreeze in it first.

Go to your local parts store and buy a cheap radiator pump/pressure gauge, screw it on where the rad. cap goes and pump it up to about 10 lbs. of pressure no more than 12 or so and check it periodically to see if it loses pressure, if it does a bad head gasket or a cracked head if you don't see water hitting the ground.

You could try a can of Barrs Leak and see what happens but when you do you should plan to use it at operating tempture for 3 or 4 hours under load(mowing,etc.) and be sure to rinse the Barrs Leak can 3 or 4 times into the raditor to get all the good stuf out of the can. Armand

It may be nothing, but white smoke normally indicates anti-freeze in the combustion chamber. You may have an ever so slight leak in the head gasket... but then that's just a guess, not a very educated one at that.
