Hello!
I am going on the HTA tractor ride with my Super A again this year and they have 2 speed groups. Well I have run with the fast tractors for the past 4yrs but this year I have a few guys that are telling me I can"t keep up with their H"s and M"s and a few of the other brands of tractors. Well my SA will run 18 and its turning about 1800rpms. What I am thinking about doing is changing the Gov spring to a tighter one and turning 2000 or so and giving them a good run for their money!

Shaggy my B that I pull has 13.6X24 rubber on it and the motor turns over 2000RPM's and I don't think it would have a problem keeping up with or passing a H or M.That little heifer will scat. Tom

I don't exactly know what was done to our W6, but I do know that it runs quite a bit faster than it is supposed to, and it has the stock governor spring in it. Its been that way since my grandfather bought it used in the 70's. At WOT it sounds more like a 340, a 574, or a higher RPM IH motor than an M motor. When my dad, grandpa, and the uncles used to blow silage into the silo, it was the only tractor that was ever used. Supposedly none of the other tractors could blow the stuff as high as that W6, which is saying something, seeing as they had an M with domed and oversized pistons, an M with oversized pistons, and a W9 at the time. I figure if ours has run for 40 years like this, yours should be fine. My dad also used the wire on the governor trick. Supposedly they followed it with a truck, and it was hitting 30+ mph. Without the wire, it will stay right behind the 806 at about 20 or 22 mph. Have fun, but be sure to be safe! Tractors weren't meant to travel that fast.

I know I am an old foegy but high road speeds on tractors is a dangerous sport in my opinion. I know of at least 3 in our commumity that have been killed when they lost control of tractor on road. On the other hand I know of dozens that have been killed in trucks so tractors may not be any more dangerous.

Don't forget to tell us all who won the race and don't forget to get a picture of those H's & M's!

tie a piece of wire from the gov. rod back to your throttle. when you need a "little" more speed reach over and pull the wire. go as fast as you dare!! ha da 140 and a 130 we used to cultivate with. the 140 would run circles around the 130 on the road. one day we were movign to another field about 8 miles away. i attached the wire without telling my partner. he always drove the 140 (they both belonged to him) and when we got started he would always motion for me to keep up knowing i could not. that day when he waved to me i pulled the wire and passed him. when we got to the field he wanted tp know what i had done to the tracvtor. when i showed him he said to leave it.

Hey Shaggy, could you fill this board in on the HTA ride? I have never been on a tractor ride before and plan on going next month, will post details as I get the facts. Thanks.

The HTA is a pretty good time! They take us down the I&M Canal and we get to see some nice country that I don't normally get to see durning the week because of work. And I get to meet a bunch of new people from all different states! Granted you have some people that think they run the show and they don't but for the most part every one is real nice and I try to eat lunch with different people every day. I personally think its relaxing riding around the country side at 18 or so MPH.
If you are on the HTA look for a Yellow Super A with Butter cup on the tool box and I should be close by.

Sounds like fun! Personally, I would turn the governer up and have some fun out running those Hs and Ms!

Of course, this is assuming your engine is in top notch condition and can handle the additional stress...

The motor was rebuilt a few years back with new everything except the gov spring and I have the bolt turned out all the way BUT I have a spring from a 230 to put in it and that will speed things up a little!
