Hey All.

So I pulled the tin off of my M this weekend, just to see what was going on under there. I have some questions for everyone (but Ill ask those when Im on a computer where I can post pics).

The one I am curious about now is that the previous owner had installed a Monarch "Hylo Jack" pump to run his home made snowplow. Does anyone know anything about these pumps? Is this something that I could try and use to run a power steering unit? Im just not sure what all this thing can do, and Im wondering if I should try to use it for hydraulics, PS, or just remove it at this point.

Thanks in advance for any and all replies!

~Bug

If the pump is installed with nice brackets, and if it operates well, I think it will be usable for steering. The key is a match between the steering torquemotor/cylinder, and the pump. A bit more capacity is OK, a bit less, and the steering does not respond well. That is an issue of safety. There may be a website for the model that wouldgive volumes at pressure. If not check it by volume per rev. JimN

Thanks for the reply!

Ill have to try and see what I can get for information off of the pump. It looks like its an older unit, so I dont know if the company is still around or of there is a model listing for them somewhere. Then I also would need to find one of the actual units that mounts on the steering shaft and see what kind of flow those would need...

I definitely dont want to make something unsafe, but was more just curious about using this pump for a different purpose than it was put on for.

Thanks for the input!
