Hello everyone, I got the 53 SM started, but i need to adjust the carb, Can someone give me a good idea where i should go. I have the idol set, but when at full throtle, it pops, and sputters. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks everyone.

you have adj on bottom, turn it out 5 turns, gas it up and check for black smoke, you may have to turn it in a little, if that dont do it, you need to take it apart and clean the high speed jet tube, it has small holes in it and may be plugged. also check your screen where gas line hooks up.

5 turns is the correct setting -- at that setting the needle is not inside the jet at all, there should not be any black smoke. It is not jetted like the M carb, unless it is modified.

The Super M has an adjustable "fixed" jet. Max power is 5 turns out, it can be turned in 1 turn or so for better fuel economy, too far and it has no power. It does not have a "sweet" spot. If someone has changed the jets or installed an M carb, what I just wrote does not apply.
