I am in the process of converting my super a to 12v system. I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on how to mount the alternator in place of the generator. What mounts have been used, bought, or made. thanks

Heres some mounting plates.

For the top support I ordered part #60714DA and part #49288DA from OEM Tractor Parts. By useing the two parts together it curves over the alt and with the two slots together you can adjust the tightness.

Use this diagram for the three wire conversion. It says for an H/M but it is the same as on a SA.

Go with the three wire because its hard to get a one wire setup to excite without a small pulley and reving the motor up every time. If you use the delco 10SI it should bolt to your old base with a longer bolt.

If you are going to use an alternator, you can use the old bracket as a basis for fabrication of a different one. Just flip the old bracket and use some spacers and a long bolt. This usually works. As for the alternator, a Delco or Nissan works good, however, I don't recommend using a one wire. Use the 3 wire system and use the diagram provided by Bob M. The one wire requires higher rpm's to excite (start) the alternator charging process. I have had one out of four one-wires work for me. All 3 wire setups worked great.

51 Farmall: If you send me an e mail, I can send you a photo of the mount I made for a Delco alternator. It is just a flat plate on top of current generator mount. The pulley I use on alternator is the dual pulley from 80s V8 GM vehicles, gives just a bit more flexability in mounting. Send the e mail, photo is worth a 1,000 words.

Why are you changing to an alternator? Your Generator will charge the battery just as well with less problems. Generators and starter do npot know the difference between 6 and 12 volt.Just use a 12 volt battery, resistor on the coil and changer light bublbs. I have a 51 M like that and it works fine. My 41 A is mag driven but uses a generator and starter with a 12 volt battery, and lights. Works great.

In case you still decide to use ann alternator use a delco or nissan one wire with built in regulator hook it to forward mount of Gen brackett and use the top bracket to to alt. Then ----sell me tyhe generator as I could use one on another tractor I have. Thanks
